New Lount Nature Reserve
This pleasant 3.5 km (~ 2 mile) walk will take you around the outskirts of the village pointing out the oldest dwellings from the early 1900s, along the Ivanhoe Way and back along the old railway line. At certain times of year there may be difficulties due to cattle and crops in the fields, and some paths are often overgrown with nettles and brambles so avoid this route in July - August. Some areas may be muddy, so strong footwear is recommended. There are also a few tricky stiles to cross.

New Lount Colliery operated from 1924 to 1968; it was the second largest colliery in Leicestershire with an output of 356,000 tons of coal a year. The Pit baths were revolutionary, opened by Frank Hodges in 1930. They were one of the first of their kind and their installation brought electricity to Newbold Coleorton. The site is now a nature reserve and the information boards about the colliery site were installed by Newbold Coleorton Heritage group in 2017.
