Sir George Beaumont

Sir George Arthur Hamilton Beaumont, 11th Baronet, was born on the 18th Jan 1881 to Sir George Beaumont 10th Baronet and Dame Lillie Ellen Beaumont. He was an only child.

Sir George’s father built Coleorton Hall and their lands were adjacent to land owned by Earl Ferrers of Staunton Harold.

Sir George succeeded his father on the 21 June 1914. Sir George had a military career as an officer in the King's Royal Rifles but retired on half-pay in 1919 having been severely wounded in the First World War.

He married Lady Rennee Beaumont on the 17 November 1923 in Epsom Surrey and the following year, Sir George and his wife opened Lount Colliery.

Newbold Coleorton Heritage Group celebrated the centenary of the opening of New Lount Colliery with a concert and a Heritage Open Day held on the 13th and 14th Sept 2024. Click here for photographs.

Coal mining was very lucrative and as a landowner, Sir George made money by leasing land around Newbold and Coleorton to individuals such as Benjamin Walker and colliery companies. He died in 1933 and left £144,257 in his will.
